Nakore Mosque
One of Ghana's oldest surviving Sudanese-style mud mosques, its weathered earthen minarets standing as a testament to centuries of trans-Saharan Islamic heritage.

Ghana's most remote region and one of its most rewarding for adventurous travellers. The Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary on the Black Volta River is one of only two hippo sanctuaries in West Africa, offering canoe trips to spot hippos in their natural habitat. The Gwollu Defence Wall — a 19th-century stone fortification built to repel slave raiders — tells a powerful story of resistance. Wa, the regional capital, has a distinctive mud-mosque architectural tradition, and the Dagaaba and Sissala people maintain some of Ghana's most vibrant musical and dance traditions.
