From Tamale, STC buses and shared trotros run to Bole (about 3–4 hours via the Tamale–Sawla road, partly unpaved). From Damongo or Mole, connect via Sawla by shared taxi before continuing to Bole.
Arrange a local guide before setting out since trails are unmarked, wear sturdy closed shoes, carry drinking water, and avoid the lowest trails during heavy rains when they can flood.
Nice enough forest walk but there's genuinely nothing marking it as a destination, we almost drove past it entirely. Ask locals for exact directions before you go.
A nice surprise while passing through Bole. The bamboo grows so densely it almost blocks out the sky in places. Short walk, good if you have an hour to spare and want to stretch your legs.
We had this entire forest to ourselves, dense native bamboo with light filtering through in a way that felt almost otherworldly. No entry fee, no crowds, just a quiet nature walk. Bring your own water, nothing sold anywhere near it.
