From Tamale, STC and VIP buses depart several times daily for Damongo (about 2 hours on the paved Tamale–Fufulso–Damongo road). From Kumasi or Accra, overnight buses to Tamale connect onward to Damongo trotros the next morning.
Stock up on cash, fuel, and supplies here before heading to Mole, dress modestly when passing the Yagbonwura's palace, and ask permission before photographing market vendors.
The Gonja culture on display here, from the palace to the everyday market life, gave us good context before reaching Mole. Friendly people, reasonably priced food stalls.
Not much to do here on its own but useful as the gateway town to Mole. Market was interesting for an hour, food options for tourists are limited though.
Stayed a night here on the way to Mole, the market has a good mix of local produce and crafts. Visited the Yagbonwura's palace area too, locals were happy to point us around. Simple town but a decent stopover.
