From Techiman, travel to Kwame Danso or Atebubu by trotro (2–3 hours), then arrange a Wildlife Division vehicle and boat transfer onto Lake Volta to reach the park's interior. This leg must be pre-booked, as there is no public transport into the park itself.
Book your guide, boat, and camping arrangements at least a week in advance, bring full camping gear and supplies, and expect no phone signal once inside the park.
We arranged a guide in advance through a contact in Techiman but communication broke down and we ended up wasting most of a day trying to figure out logistics on our own with no park staff around to help.
Very difficult to reach without your own vehicle and even then the roads in the final stretch are in bad shape. Saw very little wildlife for the effort involved getting there.
This is not a casual day trip. You need to plan ahead, arrange transport and possibly camping, but the payoff is genuine wilderness along the Lake Volta shoreline with barely any other visitors.
Remote and genuinely feels untouched, but that also means very little infrastructure for visitors. Getting there took most of a day from Techiman.
