From Accra Central or Circle, board a trotro heading to 'Teshie' or 'La' from Tema Station or Circle and alight at the La Beach Road junction. A short walk or shared taxi to the beach gate follows. From the Airport or Osu (Oxford Street), a taxi/Bolt ride takes 10-15 minutes. Uber and Bolt are the most reliable options if you're travelling with beach gear.
The Atlantic current is strong. Swim only in the patrolled section near the entrance. Agree on a price with horseback handlers before mounting. Keep valuables at your hotel; beach vendors and crowds make pickpocketing a minor risk on packed weekends.
Way too crowded and the constant sales pitches from vendors got exhausting after an hour. Understand the appeal for locals but as a first time visitor it was overwhelming.
Great first beach experience in Ghana, very lively and welcoming. Gets extremely crowded on public holidays so weekday visits are calmer if you prefer that.
Rode a horse along the shore at sunset which was a bucket item I didn't know I had. Great live drumming most weekends. Bring cash for the small vendors, cards don't work with them.
Fun atmosphere but a bit overpriced once you add up chair rental, food, and the vendors constantly approaching you. Water isn't the cleanest either. Good for people watching though.
Sunday afternoon here is basically a party, drummers, horseback riders, vendors selling everything from suya to sunglasses. Entry fee is small but they charge extra for chairs and umbrellas. Not for a quiet swim, more for the energy.
