Trotros from Circle or Tema Station to 'Osu' stop near the Liberation Road roundabout, a short walk to the castle gate. From Labadi or the Airport, a taxi/Bolt ride takes about 15 minutes. The castle sits directly on the coast road, easy to combine with a walk along Oxford Street, Osu's main commercial strip.
Because the castle has periods of restricted access, call ahead or check with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board before planning a visit around it. Bring ID, as this remains a heritage government site.
Fascinating site with such a layered history. Not as tourist friendly as Cape Coast or Elmina castles in terms of access, but if you're an Accra history buff it's a must.
Layers of Danish, then British, then Ghanaian government history in one building. Wish there was clearer public access but understandable given its past role. Worth seeing from the outside at minimum.
Wanted to see more of the interior but a lot was off limits when we visited. Still an important 17th century Danish structure to see from outside. Check ahead if tours are running that day.
Heads up, this used to be the seat of government so access inside can be restricted depending on current use. We could only view parts of it, but the exterior and history alone made the stop worthwhile as a UNESCO site.
