Any time of year. The elevation keeps it cooler than Accra year-round. Weekday mornings are quietest; weekends draw picnicking families and wedding parties, which adds atmosphere if you don't mind the company.

From Accra, drive north on the N6/Aburi road through Madina and up the Akuapim Ridge, about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Trotros to Aburi leave regularly from Accra's Tema Station and Madina; the gardens are a short walk or okada ride from the Aburi lorry park.
Bring a light sweater; the ridge air is noticeably cooler, especially in early morning or after rain. Wear comfortable walking shoes for the gravel paths. Combine your visit with a stop at Aburi's woodcarving stalls just outside the gate for souvenirs made by local artisans.
Easy day trip from Accra, we took a shared taxi up the mountain road which was fun in itself with the views. Gardens are calm and green, good for a walk or just sitting under a tree reading.
Went for a wedding photoshoot location scout and ended up loving it just as a visitor. So many great backdrops among the palms and old buildings. Craft market right outside the gate too.
Nice grounds but a bit unkempt in some sections, felt like maintenance had slipped. Still peaceful and worth the trip up from Accra for the cooler air alone.
Old colonial garden, some of the trees are over a century old according to the guide. Great views back toward Accra on a clear day. Bring water, there's a lot of walking if you do the full loop.
The royal palms lining the main avenue are stunning, feels like a completely different climate up on the ridge. We packed a picnic and spent the whole afternoon. Entry was cheap, something like GHS 15.
