Best time to visit
Early morning (7-9 AM) for the best birdwatching and cooler walking conditions. The rainy season (May-October) brings the forest to its greenest, though trails can be muddy.

Bunso sits directly on the N6 Accra–Kumasi highway, about 2 hours from Accra and 1.5 hours from Koforidua. Any Accra–Kumasi trotro, STC, or VIP bus passes through Bunso. Ask the driver to drop you at the arboretum junction, which is a short walk from the main road.
Wear long sleeves and repellent; this is genuine forest, with the insects to match. Bring binoculars if birdwatching is a priority. It's an easy, worthwhile stopover if you're already driving between Accra and Kumasi, rather than a standalone destination.
Loved the tranquility here, barely any other visitors when we went. The tree diversity is impressive for such a small reserve. Good spot for birdwatchers.
Good half hour break on a long drive. Peaceful, shaded trails, saw a couple of monkeys in the canopy. Not a full day destination but a nice detour.
Without our guide we'd have just seen trees and not understood much. He pointed out medicinal plants and rare species we'd have walked right past. Facilities are basic, bring your own snacks.
Quiet forest reserve right off the Accra-Kumasi highway, easy stop if you're driving between the two cities. The tree museum is small but informative. Lots of bird calls even from the parking area.
