From Takoradi Market Circle, take a shared taxi or trotro toward Agona Nkwanta/Dixcove and alight at the Busua junction (about 45 minutes, GHS 10-15), then a short shared taxi or okada covers the final 3km into the village. From Accra, board an STC or VIP bus to Takoradi (roughly 4-5 hours) and connect via trotro from there. Private taxis from Takoradi direct to Busua cost around GHS 80-120.
Swim only in areas locals point out as safe; rip currents exist further from the main bay. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and cash (few ATMs nearby). Surf lesson prices are negotiable; ask your guesthouse for a recommended instructor.
A bit overpriced for what you get compared to some quieter beaches nearby, and there was a lot of trash near the fishing boats area that took away from the experience.
Spent New Year's here and it was one of the best beach experiences I've had in West Africa. Palm groves right up to the sand, good waves for beginners, and the sunset views are stunning.
Beach is nice but a few of the guesthouses right on the water need updating, ours had plumbing issues. Would still come back for the surf scene though.
Chill beach town, good food options along the strip. Surfboard rental was easy to arrange right on the beach. Weekends get busier with day trippers from Takoradi.
Stayed a full week here and could have stayed longer. Surf lessons are cheap, around 60-80 cedis an hour, and the beach itself is wide and clean. Great mix of local families and backpackers, good energy at night with the beach bars.
