From Takoradi, take a trotro toward Agona Nkwanta and then a connecting shared taxi to Princess Town (roughly 1.5 hours total). A private taxi from Takoradi direct costs around GHS 100-150 for the roughly 40km trip, much of it on rough laterite road. From Accra, connect via an STC bus to Takoradi first.
Roads in are rough, and a 4x4 or high-clearance vehicle helps in wet season. Wear sturdy shoes for uneven fort terrain and mind unguarded drops near the cliff edge. There are no facilities on site, so bring water.
Small village, big history. The story of a German trading post this far into Ghana surprised me, worth reading up on before you go.
Barely any other tourists here compared to Elmina or Cape Coast, which made it feel like a real discovery. The road in is rough gravel for the last stretch so go slow.
Interesting for the history but the fort itself is quite ruined, more foundation and walls than intact rooms. Views over the coast are the highlight honestly.
The fort sits right on a headland with waves crashing below, dramatic setting for a Brandenburg-Prussia era fort most people have never heard of. Caretaker gave us a good rundown of its unusual history.
