From Sunyani, board a trotro or STC bus bound for Dormaa Ahenkro (roughly 1 hour on the Sunyani–Berekum–Dormaa road). From Kumasi, VIP and O.A. buses run directly to Dormaa Ahenkro in about 3.5 hours; the palace is a short taxi ride from the town's main lorry station.
Call ahead or go through the municipal assembly to confirm the Dormaahene's court is not in private session; dress modestly and greet elders before taking photographs.
Nice building but there wasn't much for a casual visitor to actually do besides look at the outside. A short guided history walk would make this more worthwhile.
Nice to see, my family is originally from this area so it meant a lot personally. Staff were welcoming when we explained we were just visiting to look around.
Worth the stop if you're passing through Dormaa Ahenkro. The design of the building stands out even from the road.
The palace building itself is genuinely impressive to look at, different from other royal residences I've seen in the region. We got a short tour of the outer courtyard from palace staff.
