From Sunyani, trotros to Hwidiem run via Goaso (about 2 hours). From Kumasi, travel to Goaso first, then continue by shared taxi to Hwidiem (roughly 30 minutes further).
Never enter without a custodian guide, dress modestly, and avoid touching or removing anything from the grove.
Nice trees but I was expecting more of a proper trail. It's really just walking into the bush behind someone. Fine for an hour if you're in the area.
Good short visit, maybe 40 minutes of walking. Not much signage so you really need someone local with you to understand what you're looking at.
Very calm place. We went early morning before the heat and had the whole grove to ourselves except for some birds. The elder who walked with us explained the taboo system and how it's kept the forest untouched for generations. No fee but we gave him GHS 30 as thanks.
This grove has some of the biggest old trees I've seen in Ghana. It's protected by taboo so nothing gets cut, and you can feel how old it is walking in. Bring a guide from town, they'll explain which trees are considered sacred and why.
