From Accra, take an STC bus or shared taxi toward Aflao and alight at Keta junction, then a short trotro or taxi into Keta town (total journey around 3-3.5 hours). From Ho, trotros run southeast toward Keta via Sogakope (about 2.5 hours). Boat trips on the lagoon are best arranged through guesthouses in Keta or Anyanui.
Some sections of the fort are structurally unstable due to erosion. Stick to marked areas and follow your guide closely. Bring sun protection for lagoon boat trips, as there's little shade on the water.
Combined a walk along Keta lagoon with the fort visit, nice contrast between the peaceful water and the heavy history at the fort. Small entry fee, 20 cedis.
This was one of the heaviest stops on our trip. Standing in the dungeons at Prinzenstein while the Atlantic waves crash just outside really puts the history in perspective. Our guide didn't sugarcoat any of it.
Lagoon views are nice from the road but the fort itself needs serious restoration work, several rooms are unsafe to enter. Local guide gave good context though.
Fort Prinzenstein is crumbling in parts but that almost makes it more powerful, you can see the ocean literally eating into the old walls. Heavy history, worth the visit for that alone.
