Best time to visit
Late afternoon into sunset for the best light on the river and bridge cables. Weekdays are quieter at the riverside restaurants than weekends, when it's a popular stop for travelers heading to the Volta Region.

From Accra, take the N1 to Tema and then the N2 toward Akosombo/Ho. Atimpoku and the bridge are directly on this route, about 1.5 to 2 hours from Accra. Any trotro or STC bus heading toward Ho or the Volta Region passes directly over the bridge; ask to be dropped at Atimpoku junction.
Pull off at the clearly marked riverside restaurants on the Atimpoku side for the classic photo angle rather than stopping on the bridge itself, which carries active traffic. Try the grilled tilapia; it's a local specialty at nearly every riverside spot here.
Nice piece of engineering history and a good landmark to mark you're near Lake Volta. Vendors sell grilled tilapia right by the riverside nearby which made for a good lunch stop.
It's a bridge, so there's only so much to do, mostly a quick photo stop. Traffic can back up on the bridge itself so parking on the approach is your best bet.
Don't sleep on this one, the suspension design is genuinely striking up close and the river views on both sides are gorgeous. Good stop on the way to or from the Volta region.
Historic bridge from 1957, feels like driving through a piece of Ghana's independence era. Great photo stop looking down at the Volta River below. There's a small lookout area on the Atimpoku side.
