Near Gbledi Wote / Liati Wote, Afadjato South District, Volta Region
From Accra, take an STC bus or shared taxi to Hohoe (about 4.5-5 hours). From Hohoe station, board a trotro heading toward Liati Wote or Gbledi Wote (roughly 45 minutes on a partly unpaved road). Register at the community information centre in either village, where a mandatory local guide is assigned before the climb.
Wear proper hiking shoes with grip. The summit approach has loose rock and rope sections. Carry at least 1.5 litres of water; there is no water source on the trail. Insect repellent is worthwhile in the lower forest.
Guide seemed rushed and kept pushing us to go faster than was comfortable. Also felt overpriced for a guided hike, 100 cedis for two hours of being hurried along.
As someone who hikes a lot, this is genuinely one of the best short climbs I've done in West Africa. Well maintained trail, friendly guides, and the view at the top is huge.
Left Hohoe right after breakfast and were back by early afternoon. Start early to beat the heat. The summit views into Togo are worth the burn in your legs.
Harder than I expected, wish someone had warned me to bring more water. Guide was helpful but the climb itself nearly wrecked my knees on the way down.
Ghana's highest peak and it earns that title, the trail is steep with ropes in a few sections near the top. Took us about 3 hours up and down combined. On a clear day you can see into Togo from the summit which is a great payoff.
