From Sefwi Wiawso, trotros to Sefwi Akontombra run regularly (about 1 hour), from where a local guide or motorbike taxi covers the final stretch to the reserve's riverside trails.
Arrange a Forestry Commission or local guide in Sefwi Akontombra before setting out, bring binoculars for birdwatching, and wear waterproof footwear.
Quiet forest reserve, saw hornbills and a ton of butterflies. Guide from the nearby village really knew the birdlife well, made the trip worthwhile.
Beautiful biodiversity but very hard to access, our vehicle struggled on the last few kilometers of road. Only recommend this if you have a sturdy 4x4 and some patience.
Remote in the best way, no crowds and the forest feels properly wild. Bring your own everything though, no facilities anywhere nearby.
Spent a full morning here with a local guide and counted more bird species than anywhere else on our Western North trip. Genuinely untouched canopy, barely any trail markings which added to the sense of being somewhere remote.
