From Takoradi Market Circle, take a trotro directly to Axim (about 1.5-2 hours, GHS 20-25). From Accra, board an STC or VIP bus to Takoradi (4-5 hours) and connect via trotro from the Takoradi station. Shared taxis also run the Takoradi-Axim route throughout the day.
Some coves have stronger currents than others, so ask locally before swimming away from the main beach. Bring cash, as ATMs are limited in Axim town. Pair a beach day with a short visit to Fort São Antônio for the view alone.
Good day trip from Takoradi, about an hour and a half drive. Fort Santo Antonio nearby is worth a quick stop too, oldest European building in Ghana.
Nice beach but not much in terms of restaurants or facilities close by, we had to drive back into town for food. Bring your own snacks and water.
Fewer people, cleaner sand, and the coves along the coast here are perfect for a lazy beach day. Fresh fish from the local sellers right on the beach was a highlight.
Quieter than Busua, good if you want palm trees and coves without the crowds. Portuguese fort nearby is a nice add-on to the beach day.
