Near Kubease, off the Kumasi-Accra highway, Ejisu District, Ashanti Region
Take a trotro from Kejetia station in Kumasi toward Konongo or Ejisu along the Kumasi-Accra highway, alighting at Kubease (about 35km, 45-60 minutes, GHS 12-15). From Kubease, a short taxi or okada ride (about 10 minutes) covers the last stretch to the reserve entrance.
Wear long sleeves and closed shoes against forest insects, and bring insect repellent. A guide is recommended and often required for the deeper trails. Bring binoculars if birding is a priority; rentals are not available on-site.
Nice enough but I think it's better suited to people specifically interested in butterflies or plants. As a general visitor I found an hour was more than enough time.
Really peaceful. We saw a few different butterfly species up close and the forest itself has some huge old trees. Bathroom facilities near the entrance need attention though.
Nice quiet forest reserve, good for a break from the city. Trails are well marked compared to some other reserves I've visited in the region.
Went with my sister on a weekday morning and had the trails almost to ourselves. The sheer number of butterfly species flying around the reserve was unreal, our guide said hundreds of species have been recorded here. GHS 15 entry plus GHS 30 for the guide.
