Take a trotro from Kejetia station in Kumasi toward Ejisu/Bonwire (about 20km, 35-45 minutes, GHS 8-12). A taxi or Bolt from central Kumasi costs roughly GHS 60-80 one way and takes about 35 minutes along the Kumasi-Ejisu road.
Bring cash for purchases; bank cards aren't accepted in most weaving compounds. Bargain politely but fairly; weaving is highly skilled, time-intensive labor. Ask permission before photographing individual weavers up close.
The weaving itself is impressive but we couldn't walk five feet without someone pulling us toward their stall. Made it hard to actually enjoy watching the craft.
Interesting for about 30 minutes but I felt rushed by sellers trying to get us into their shops the whole time we were there.
Cool to see where kente actually comes from. A bit touristy near the entrance with people pushing you to buy, but once you get further in and talk to the actual weavers it's a much better experience.
Drove out from Kumasi, maybe 40 minutes. Watching the weavers work the traditional looms by hand was mesmerizing, the patterns take real skill. Bought a strip of kente directly from one of the weavers for GHS 150, way better than buying in the city.
