From Kejetia station in central Kumasi, take a shared taxi or trotro heading toward Manhyia (10–15 minutes). A Bolt or Uber ride from Adum or Kejetia costs roughly GHS 15–25 and takes about 10 minutes depending on traffic.
A guided tour is compulsory and included in the ticket price. Allow about an hour. Dress modestly out of respect for the royal institution. Interior photography often requires an additional small fee, so ask at the entrance before shooting.
Interesting but our guide spoke very quickly and it was hard to follow everything as a first-time visitor to Ghana. Would help to have printed information available too.
Good museum, well kept. Photography inside some rooms is restricted which some visitors in our group found frustrating, but I understand why given what's on display.
As someone who grew up in Kumasi I still learned things I didn't know. The guided tour is worth paying extra for, don't just wander the rooms alone.
If you only do one thing in Kumasi make it this. The old palace building holds royal regalia, photos, and personal items from past Asantehenes. Our guide inside was excellent and answered every question we had about the Golden Stool and the wars with the British. Entry was GHS 20.
