Trotros from every major Accra station (Circle, Kaneshie, Tema Station, Achimota) run directly to 'Makola' or 'Kimbo' stop at the market's edge. From central Accra hotels, it's a 5-10 minute taxi/Bolt ride, or walkable from Kwame Nkrumah Circle in about 20 minutes.
Keep bags zipped and valuables close. It's crowded, not dangerous, but pickpocketing opportunism happens in dense markets anywhere. Bargain confidently but respectfully, and carry small denomination cedi notes.
Got pickpocketed here unfortunately, lost my phone in the crowd. Market itself has character but be extremely careful with your belongings, keep everything zipped and in front pockets.
Best place to buy fabric in Accra, hands down. The traders know their textiles inside out. Bring small bills, and don't be afraid to negotiate the first price they quote.
Interesting to see real Accra commerce but honestly overwhelming for a first timer. Very hot, very crowded, narrow walkways. Go with a local if you can, they'll help you navigate and negotiate.
Century old market run mostly by women traders, fabric section especially is amazing if you want authentic prints without tourist markup. It's chaotic and crowded though, hold your bag close and expect to get lost in the alleys.
