Best time to visit
Year-round, but early morning (6:30-8:00 AM) or late afternoon (4:00-5:30 PM) gives the most active monkey encounters; dry season (November-March) makes forest paths easier underfoot.

From Accra, take an STC or VIP bus toward Hohoe and alight at Logba Alakpeti junction, or travel via Ho and connect with a trotro toward Kpalime road villages. From Hohoe, shared taxis and trotros run to Tafi Atome (about 1 hour via Golokwati). A private taxi from Ho or Hohoe is the most reliable option given infrequent trotro schedules.
Don't wear strong perfume or bright loose clothing that might startle the troop. Keep bananas out of sight until your guide signals. Monkeys will otherwise approach unpredictably. Overnight guesthouse stays are basic but comfortable; bring a torch.
Loved seeing how the village and the monkeys coexist. Our guide grew up here and had great stories about the forest being protected as sacred ground for generations.
Cute experience but a bit brief, we were done in 30 minutes. Also a few monkeys got aggressive over the bananas so keep small kids close.
Best part of our Volta trip honestly. Buy the bananas at the entrance and the monkeys practically jump onto your shoulders. Well run by the community, felt good knowing the fee supports the village.
The mona monkeys come right up for bananas, kids loved feeding them. Village guides explain why the monkeys are considered sacred here which added context to the whole visit.
