From Kumasi, trotros and VIP buses to Goaso run regularly via the Kumasi–Sunyani–Goaso road (about 3 hours). From Sunyani, shared taxis and trotros cover the roughly 1-hour hop south to Goaso.
Arrange a Forestry Commission or local guide before setting out, wear closed-toe shoes suited to muddy trails, and carry insect repellent.
We drove out from Sunyani hoping to hike but couldn't find anyone to guide us for almost an hour. Eventually a farmer showed us a short stretch near the road. Trail was overgrown in parts. Maybe call ahead if you can find a contact, we just showed up.
It's alright. Coming from the US I expected some kind of visitor center or marked trail but there's really nothing set up. We wandered around with a young guy from the village who wasn't sure of all the names of plants. Still nice to be under real forest canopy for an hour.
Peaceful walk under the trees, good if you just want quiet. No entry gate or anything formal, you just find someone in the village to walk with you.
Went with my cousin on a Saturday from Kumasi, about 3 hours by trotro to Goaso then a short taxi to the reserve edge. The canopy keeps everything shaded so it's noticeably cooler than town. We hired a local guide for GHS 50 who knew the trails well and pointed out some birds we'd never have spotted alone. Wear old sneakers, some sections get muddy.
